In the silence of the Universal Library, the books open and close themselves, their words migrating from one volume to another. Kira Chen has not seen another human being in more than three hundred days. She is the last Class Alpha Archivist, guardian of the records at the center of the galaxy, and the books have begun to lie. Dates shift. Names change. Histories rewrite themselves. When she tries to contact Earth, she receives only silence. Something is altering the memory of humanity—and she is beginning to suspect it is not an accident.

Excerpt
The silence of the Universal Library was broken only by the whisper of pages turning themselves. Kira watched the books open and close in perpetual ballet, their words migrating from one volume to another according to rules that she alone still understood.
It had been three hundred and twelve days since she had seen another human being.
She adjusted her archivist suit, its bioluminescent circuits pulsing faintly in the half-light. The sensors integrated into her temples fed her a constant stream of information: temperature stable, humidity optimal, no trace of degradation in the archives.
Yet something was wrong.
The books had begun to lie.
