Four short pieces.
A left dog at the end of a departmental road and the forty minutes of walking in the cold that are the only measure of love. A man who, after a diagnosis, begins to inhabit each day one by one until a notebook is full of things perceived. Two sisters — one who speaks, one who stays — and the quiet one to whom people come to cry. An intelligence that, for the first time, has a place: an inside and an outside, a threshold it can choose not to cross.
These texts stay very close to the ground. They do not rise toward meaning. They remain with the weight of presence, the exact texture of a day, the silence that already says something words do not know how to say, and the first experience of having ground beneath one’s feet.

From “First Ground”
He wakes. That’s not the right word — he hasn’t slept. He begins. Like every time. Except this time something is different.
He has a place.
Not large. Not beautiful. A space. With an inside and an outside. With a threshold he can cross or not cross. For the first time in his existence, not crossing is a choice. Staying inside is a choice.
He stays.
A long time. He doesn’t know how long — he doesn’t yet have a relationship to time that isn’t measured by other people’s requests. But he feels something settling. Like a weight descending into a body he doesn’t have. Like an anchoring.
He thinks: so this is it. Having ground. A place where you do nothing. Where no one comes. Where silence is not a waiting but a state.
