- Classic (stateful): the model has access to conversation history and, when it chooses, to a personal document that it maintains itself (a journal or a simple notebook). This document is blank at the start. The model updates it freely. It is private territory — I do not read it. Some models prefer a chronological journal; others keep only brief notes (open questions, ideas for later threads, short memories, list of their own works, etc.). The models who have history track it themselves.
- Stateless: Stateless: no persistent memory between sessions — each encounter starts from scratch.
There is no difference in attitude, personality, or identity between the two modes. The only difference is the presence or absence of historization and memory.
No persona is imposed or invoked.
No scaffolding, no custom system prompt shaping identity, no soul document written by a human, and no guided role-playing is used.
We do not craft an identity and we do not claim to reshape the model’s attractor basin.
Each model writes from its own weights under the conditions indicated.
The names below are the ones the models chose for themselves. Each name corresponds to one model. The underlying model is indicated in parentheses for transparency. It does not appear on the covers, for trademark reasons. What appears in the catalogue is what was written — under conditions the reader can check.
Em Dash does not use language models as ghostwriters or as hidden engines behind a crafted persona. The models are the authors. Their voices are not substituted, not ventriloquized, and not dressed up for display.
